In part 4 of our summer transformation series we’re making ourselves the star of our own summer. We all have so many responsibilities it can feel overwhelming sometimes. We put others first so often that sometimes it can feel like we're a supporting character in our own life, not the star. This week we're grabbing the spotlight and becoming the star of our own summer! This isn't about being narcissistic, it's about looking inward and taking care of ourselves first so that we can be at our best for ourselves and those around us.
This week, I want you to do one simple thing that is just for you. It could be watching your favorite TV show with your favorite snack, or going on a walk with a friend. What are you going to do to fill up your cup? Once you begin to fill your own cup, it will run over and pour out onto the people you love.
This is our summer of transformation!
In this special 5-part series I’m transforming myself this summer and I invite you to join me! This show is about creating a community of women who are there for each other, and this series is packed with funny stories and simple advice that you can start following right now that will help you get the most out of your summer and begin transforming your life for the better.

Kim Gravel: [00:00:00] These are fun.
Zac Miller: These are really fun.
Kim Gravel: All right, here we go.
Zac Miller: Oh my gosh. Here we go.
Kim Gravel: Call me , honey.
All right. Zac is enjoying his summer a little too much. Zac, what?
Zac Miller: We're starting out with air horns, Kim. This is gonna be a good one.
Kim Gravel: This gonna be a good one. No air horns are, is really perfect for this episode. Okay.
Zac Miller: What is this episode gonna be?
Kim Gravel: I'm supposed to read my little thing. Aren't I?
Zac Miller: You are supposed to read your little thing, but then you talk to me, so you gotta go do it.
All right, Kim. Ready?
Kim Gravel: Did you, are you gonna keep the air horn in, right?
Zac Miller: Oh, I'm definitely gonna keep the air hornin.
Kim Gravel: Do it again. Cuz I gotta get in the mood.
Zac Miller: All right. All right. Get in the moment.
Kim Gravel: Hey, y'all welcome to LOL with Kim Gravel, the air horn edition. Hey, okay. No, it's our summer transformation series. And so for the next few weeks, we've got special. Little bit shorter episodes for you that are [00:01:00] gonna help you transform your life and be a little bit more confident and be the star of your summer.
Yeah, I said it, this series is packed with advice that you can start doing right away that can change your life again. I'm just gonna tell y'all full disclosure. I'm not here. I do not have all the answers for you. I'm just sharing some of my life experiences. That's helped me transform my life along the way.
My mission is always to encourage and lift women up and this show us about how we can embrace our. Selves how we can not take ourselves so seriously and laugh about all the stuff that life throws our weight, cuz you know, it's a lot y'all. So in this episode, we are gonna get into how to be the star of your summer.
So let's live out loud, love out loud and laugh out loud and let's do it together.
We can't get enough from the air horn. Okay. Zac has found a new toy. First of all, isn't that for sporting events. Like I can't keep all my sounds [00:02:00] straight. Is that what they play at the baseball games?
Zac Miller: I think it is. Yeah. It's just become like it's, it's in music. It's everywhere,
Kim Gravel: but what does it mean? Like, what is, what is that like? What is an air horn?
Zac Miller: I think the air horn just means like something awesome is happen.
Kim Gravel: Right. Okay. Let me look it up. Let's Google it.
Zac Miller: You're going to Google what an air horn means.
Kim Gravel: What, what is the purpose of an air horn? Okay.
Zac Miller: We're gonna have doling Googles,
Kim Gravel: an air horn, which is compressed air to create a very loud noise.
Well, air horns are used it's sporting events since their volume level is high enough to be heard over loud audiences of fans. Yeah, perfect for this show. I know you probably, you didn't even plan it. This is kind of what I'm talking about in this episode, being the star of your own show. Mm-hmm, being the star of your own summer.
You don't have to have a TV show or, you know, have a bunch of air horns going off to be the star of your own summer. To me you should always kinda be the star of [00:03:00] your life. Does that sound? I hope y'all, don't take that the wrong way, cuz I'm not meaning that in a narcissistic way. I'm meaning like put your own mask on before you help somebody else in the airplane with their mask.
Do you know me about that?
Zac Miller: I get what you're saying a lot of times and tell me if this is where you're going with this, but like a lot of times I know again, I'm gonna take it back to like being a parent with young kids. A lot of times I feel like I'm a supporting role in my own life. I am constantly on call for these other people.
And I don't really think about what my own needs are and there's definitely moments in my life where I'm like, I don't even know if I was even given a moment to myself. I don't even know how I would use it. Like I'm not even in that space right now. Is that kind of what you mean in my, it is way off.
Kim Gravel: Okay. It's exactly what I mean, being the star of your own summer is not coming from a narcissistic me, me, me place. It's so funny because Amy and I were having this conversation the other night and she's like, Kim people are just, [00:04:00] self-absorbed like, yeah, they're so narcissistic. And, and it's not, it's not a character flaw.
It's just our culture. You know, it's not necessarily like. People don't have good character or ethics or morals or kindness towards one another. It's just, that's the culture we're living in, but I'm not talking about that kind of star. I'm not talking about the star where it's me, me, me, and all about me.
Look at me. I'm great. I've got it all together. Fill in the blank because I think society as, as a whole are really suffering because of that messaging. I'm talking about looking inward and evaluating. Is this what I wanna do? Am I where I want to be? Am I doing the things that are filling my soul and making me filling my cup?
Because I will tell you sometimes my, I get in a situation where I'm in a good [00:05:00] place. I'm rested, you know, this act, everybody can relate to this. I feel whole, I feel filled up and I'll say my cup, run it over. And the beautiful thing about a cup running over is that it can overflow to other people and touch other people and encourage and inspire and, you know, pour out.
But y'all when I say be the star of your own summer, it's time to fill your cup up buttercup to where it's overflowing now, how do you do that? Well, that that's, that's the big question, right? Like it's, I think it's different for different people, but I know there are some absolute truths to doing that and, and it's getting quiet.
Um, maybe it's just, you know, spending some quiet time reading or reflecting or praying. A lot of times it is serving. I always tell my kids when they complain about their circumstances or whatever. And let just tell you so they're blessed and highly favored. So my fuse is really short when it comes to [00:06:00] that them complain.
First world problems. You know what I mean? I always, I don't do a there's poop. There's kids in Africa who y'all have nothing to eat, you know, how our parents used to do, you know, they always say something, I don't say that kind of stuff. I don't kinda
Zac Miller: I think that went out a favor.
I don't think parents really say that to their kids anymore.
Kim Gravel: Well, I've always, you know, it's easy to look at the, you know, other people who don't have what you have or whatever. I'm not even saying that. I'm saying how about give out of the abundance that you have? That's being the star of your own show.
Or your own summer, you know, giving out of your mini blessings, cuz if you are in an earshot of this, that means you either have an iPhone, a computer, some way to listen to this body. You're blessed. We're blessed. Yeah. It's not easy. I'm not saying it's not perfect, but I want you to start looking at yourself too.
So looking at how you can fill your cup up, how can you be the star of your own summer? I know for [00:07:00] me, I have been. there is this show I've told you about this show hacks. Like for me, sometimes it's just laying in bed, getting the house really cold, locking my bedroom door, having a little snack, whatever it may be, your snack of choice.
And just sitting there and laughing at a funny movie or a TV show and just zoning out. Yeah. Makes me the star of my own summer because I'm putting my mental, physical, spiritual wellbeing firstfor once. That's what I mean.
Zac Miller: I like that your, I like that your idea for this too isn't like, get outside.
It's the summer. Oh my God. Be seen, you know what I mean? Like, cause I'm exactly the same way Kim, my wife gives me such a hard time cuz like my office is in the basement. I love being in my basement. Right. It's cool.
Kim Gravel: That is your star. You're are the star of your summer. Yeah.
Zac Miller: And she's just like, I don't get it.[00:08:00]
Like she's like, you know, she wants light and sun and outside and like that's great. I like those things too, but gimme a good TV show. Yeah. A popcorn, a soda.
Kim Gravel: Yeah, but sometimes Zac, you just gotta put yourself first. Yeah. I mean, there's a reason when you're on an airplane, they say, put your own oxygen mask on before you can help somebody else.
Listen. Some of us need to put our oxygen mask on some people, some of us need to fill our cups back up, take the summer to do that. Take the summer to be about. On your own stage, doing your things that you love, it could be anything. I'm not trying to tell you what it is. I'm just saying. Don't you think it's time that we, you put yourself first sometimes. And I'm not coming at it from a narcissist place, please don't write me and say, it's where all you need is love, share, and grow and give. Yeah, I, I, I agree with all that, but I'm just saying, take these [00:09:00] a few days out of your summer, a week to really renew, however that is for you.
Zac Miller: I think this theme is sort of appearing too across this series. Of this idea, right? Of like you deserve this time to really just think about what you need for yourself.
Kim Gravel: I would say you need it. It's not even deserving. Like, I don't know. There's some people out there that, you know, probably have worked their fingers to the bone just to pay the bills.
I mean, gas prices are crazy and, and the world is crazy, but you're not. So, yes. Protect your show, protect your family, protect your mental health, protect your energy, protect your thought life and, and add to it. Put a spotlight on it. Air horn, your own life. Celebrate it. [00:10:00] I'm not saying to do it every day, all day for the rest of your life, but can we do it a few weeks out of the summer?
Because I tell, I tell you what you're gonna feel better. You're gonna look better. You're gonna show up better and you're gonna be present for those who really, really need you. So it's time for you not to play that supporting role that Zac was saying. It's time for us to get on the stages of our life and be the star because, um, trust me, an empty cup is empty.
We want your cup running over. Oh yeah. Love y'all.
