Life is short, Eat the Pie

Discover how the power of connection can transform your relationships, goals, and life in the year ahead.

We’re recording in our brand-new studio and as the year wraps up and the holidays bring us together, it’s the perfect time to reflect, reset, and embrace the power of connection. This week, I’m kicking off part 1 of a 3-part series on one of the themes of my new book: the power of connection. Oh, did I mention that I'm writing a new book!

Let me tell you—connection is everything. We all crave it, seek it, and have the power to strengthen it. Whether we’re leveling up our personal lives or setting goals for 2025, true growth comes from connecting with others—and with ourselves. Life’s too short—eat the pie, take the trip, and make those meaningful connections!

In this episode:

  • A look at the NEW studio!
  • My HUGE announcement - I'm writing another book!
  • Why the end of the year is the perfect time to reflect, reset, and move forward
  • The power of connection (one of the themes in my new book!)
  • We share our holiday wishes

Kim:

Zac is here in person in Atlanta.

Zac:

Hello, everybody. I'm here.

Kim:

The one thing I cannot teach people is authenticity, but I can teach them connection. We just do the. Look.

Zac:

You spend all this time making something, you post it and no one cares, and then you post some dumb thing that you spent no time on, and it gets 10 times.

Kim:

Yeah, but that is the art of connection. I want to try to get every ounce of flipping life out of life, y'all. I'm telling you, life is so short.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

Eat the pie.

Zac:

Eat the pie.

Zac:

Kim, check this out. Ready?

Kim:

No, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Okay, we're in the dark.

Zac:

We're in the dark.

Kim:

We're filming in our studio.

Zac:

There's no door on the studio.

Kim:

There's no door on the suit yet.

Zac:

Because we had to take it off because we have so much stuff.

Kim:

This is a work in progress.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

Okay. And so let there be light.

Zac:

Ta da. Ta da.

Kim:

Ah.

Zac:

It takes a second.

Kim:

It takes. Hey, listen. It takes me. These lights warm up like I warm up in the morning.

Zac:

So slow.

Kim:

Slow. But sure.

Zac:

But. And parts and. But parts of you are ready before other.

Kim:

Oh, my God. When I give more, I'm like, oh, my back. And it takes me a minute. I used to pop out of bed and like, hello.

Zac:

I like. I like that at any time, I can just be like, see?

Kim:

Yeah. It's over.

Zac:

Okay, wait. So let's tell. Let's show the people.

Kim:

Show the people.

Zac:

So camera A, camera A, smile cam. Camera B on me.

Kim:

Zac is here in person in Atlanta.

Zac:

Hello, everybody.

Kim:

I'm here.

Zac:

Can you believe it?

Kim:

It's a miracle.

Zac:

I know.

Kim:

It's a Christmas miracle.

Zac:

It's a Christmas miracle. And then cameras. And then we have a one in.

Kim:

Case we want to squeeze Amy in or Allisyn or somebody.

Zac:

Yeah, I think we're going to do more people here.

Kim:

I think we're going to. It's time. We're leveling up.

Zac:

Oh, yeah.

Kim:

But I think that's time for everybody to level up. That's why we want to do this. Really. I mean, the studio is not completely done.

Zac:

No.

Kim:

It's a work in progress. But I will say, aren't we all?

Zac:

And that's what. It was funny, because you were like, I don't know if we should shoot. I'm like, let's just.

Kim:

Let's shoot it and let's see where it goes. But I mean, we are working promise into the year. Right. So we're heading into 20, 25. Do have any goals Any what. What? I know this was a big goal.

Zac:

No, no, this is. No, this, this was big, but this was big. 2025 for me is going to be the year that I am getting myself on social media. I'm for myself.

Kim:

Well, you know, you're already on Tik Tok. I've liked a few of your Tik Toks.

Zac:

I know. Well, I've done a couple. But I'm going to start posting regularly and. And I'm going to start doing more.

Kim:

I will say it's a pain in the rear.

Zac:

I know you hate it.

Kim:

I don't hate it. No, I don't. That's a strong. It's just, it's another thing. But it's an important thing. And let me explain what I'm saying because I've just started the new book, so it'll be right.

Zac:

Okay, wait, can you give us a preview of the new book? I know you literally started like I.

Kim:

Start today, actually, I had a two hour call today. It's about connecting connection in this theory that we all want to connect and have strong relationships. Have strong, you know, how do we connect in business? I mean, there's so much to talk about, but it's about connection.

Zac:

Okay.

Kim:

And so for me, I think adding this element.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

To the pod is really. It's on brands act.

Zac:

It's on brands.

Kim:

It's because, I mean, it truly is about, for me about talking to people.

Zac:

Hearing their stories and having someone here in person is so much fun.

Kim:

I'm a people person. Yeah, I know people think, oh, gosh, I don't, I don't enjoy it, being on camera and all that by myself.

Zac:

I don't think people. Yeah, maybe it comes through on QVC and stuff, but like the warmth that, like when you're in your presence, like you have that you have a warmth about you.

Kim:

Well, tell that to my children. Who is failing pre calculus.

Zac:

Well, I thought you were studying with.

Kim:

Okay, Zac, how literally the New Year's resolution. I have so many resolutions. One of them is please just to get Beau out of school, graduated. You know, he's a smart kid. He's on National Honor Society, all that.

Zac:

He's got it.

Kim:

But math is not his gig, man. And you know, it ain't my gig.

Zac:

Let me ask you this, okay? How do you celebrate the holidays, Kim?

Kim:

Well, look, it's all about family and I try to slow down at work, but, you know, it's all about the reason for the season for me. You know, I do celebrate, you know, the Birth of Jesus and my faith and. But it's faith and family and focus. I think I always take this time between, like the holidays. I mean, you. Because you celebrate Hanukkah, that starts today. That starts the same day as Christmas Day.

Zac:

It starts.

Kim:

So we're celebrating.

Zac:

The same day is Christmas Day. So it's like.

Zac:

Yeah.

Zac:

Which is kind of awesome because sometimes it's way early.

Kim:

I love the way early because then you get to celebrate both. But anyway, I'm saying, like, you know, it's, it's. It's. It's really a time to focus. It's faith, family and then focus. Because I. I always do a reset at the end of the year. Do you reset?

Zac:

I do.

Kim:

I try.

Kim:

Where? I just kind of slow down.

Zac:

Okay, what does that mean? Like, tell me, tell us how. Like really tell us how you do it. Because that I think is important.

Kim:

Yeah, I reflect a lot, you know, because I look. I'm looking back at 2024, and I like to think, what did. What did I accomplish? What did. What hard times did I go through? I had some rough hard times in 2024. I had my bell's palsy. I mean, it was a lot like. Because last year, this time, like January, like, it hit me. It hit me like December 23rd.

Zac:

It was crazy.

Kim:

Like, right before Christmas.

Zac:

Right before Christmas.

Kim:

And so it's like, wow, a year has gone by since that happened. And so, you know, we always tend to clock our times based on our trauma. But also, you know, we gotta think about the good things that happen too. So I reflect and I really think about the things. I talk about it with my kids and my family. And then, you know, I'm always forward thinking. Yeah, I'm not, I don't. I'm not a rearview mirror kind of gal.

Zac:

I would say, like, you're like a mile a minute person.

Kim:

Like, you're a little touched by an angel. You are too, though, in your way.

Zac:

I am in my way.

Kim:

That's why we get lost.

Zac:

That's why I totally get along. But. But not even touched by an angel like that. Like, we're crazy. You are crazy. Yeah, you're crazy.

Kim:

Don't we.

Zac:

We you.

Kim:

I'm crazy.

Zac:

I'm crazy too.

Kim:

I know, but I'm crazy in a way that, like, I want to try to get every ounce of flipping life out of life.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

I want to wring it out till it's just dries a bone.

Zac:

I like that.

Kim:

You know?

Zac:

Yeah.

Zac:

I've been thinking about.

Kim:

I don't just ring it out. But like, when you got a rag and you ring it out, then I just beat it on a rock. I just want every little ounce of.

Zac:

When I say I want to be on social media, what I mean is I want to make my own, like, dumb videos. Like, I just want to make my own work. You know what I mean?

Kim:

You are. You're going to do it.

Zac:

That to me is like, I was thinking about this and I was doing something for you. Yeah. I was like, I don't ever do anything for me, and I don't actually ever put any effort into the things.

Kim:

I do do for me what none of us do. You are so right about me. Right?

Zac:

Isn't that totally right?

Kim:

You are so honking right about it. You know what we're always doing for others.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

And it's not just you and me. I mean, it's everybody watching too.

Zac:

I will put like, you know, hour. I was here working on the studio until, like, you know, 9, 9:30 last.

Kim:

And you gonna be here tonight till.

Zac:

And I'll be here till 10 or whatever, you know, I'll. I'll be here. I'll do 14 hours or whatever. Every day I'm here because I'll work my butt off for someone else's thing, you know, I mean, this is my thing. But.

Kim:

No, I know what I mean. You're talking from a personal level.

Zac:

It's an external thing. It's like, this is the show. I have to work myself.

Kim:

This is your career.

Zac:

This is my career, you're saying. But the stuff that's personal, me. And it's like pulling teeth, isn't it?

Kim:

So that's. That's your new thing for 2022. You're going to do more for you.

Zac:

Yeah, I hope.

Kim:

No, you are.

Zac:

I have to make the decision.

Kim:

Make the decision. Oh, my gosh. I was talking to Claudia today about the book, and I was talking about that, and I was.

Zac:

That's your book agent, for those of you.

Kim:

Yes. Claudia, she's. She's. She's so. And gosh, my lord, so many great books she's worked on and mentored. But the things we really want is we want to know why we're here. Our purpose. You know, we want the confidence to move into that purpose, but also we want to connect with people and with ourselves.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

Don't you think that's what you're looking for?

Zac:

Yeah, 100%.

Kim:

What does that. What does that mean for you?

Zac:

Connection. Connection's a key, Kim.

Kim:

It's. We're Hardwired for it. Remember we had that doctor on and she told us that.

Zac:

She said we're hardwired for connection.

Kim:

And it's longevity. It gives us longevity.

Zac:

Yeah.

Zac:

And it. And it makes us feel better. Remember. Remember we talked about that thing, too. I remember this from. I forget which episode we were doing, but if you do a hard thing with a friend, you perform better.

Kim:

Yes.

Zac:

Yeah.

Zac:

That's pretty amazing.

Kim:

Maybe 20, 25 is for some of everybody listening. It could be to slow down. Could be to. A lot of people went through a hard time, though, Zac. You know, my neighbor just got diagnosed with cancer.

Zac:

Sorry, Kim.

Kim:

Stage four, you know, so, like, there's so many people listening right now, Zac, that might be going through things. Financial. It doesn't. Who knows? And that's part of life. But what are we going to do with the life that we've been given? And I might be at a. I'm older than you, and so. And my parents are even older than me. And so you start.

Kim:

You do look at life differently as you go through the different seasons, but it's never too late.

Zac:

Nope. Never too late.

Kim:

And to start the thing.

Zac:

And I. Okay, we say that a lot. It's never too late.

Kim:

It's true.

Zac:

Because it's true. But it's hard to start the thing. Like, I've been. I've been thinking about doing this social media thing for months, and, you know, I'll post a little video here and there, and I'm on, you know, whatever. But it's.

Kim:

Are you overcomplicating it?

Zac:

I think I am.

Kim:

Okay.

Zac:

Yeah.

Zac:

It's like, oh, I need this in order to do this. And why don't I. You know, I need to get. Let me get this thing ready. And it's just. Just do it.

Kim:

Yeah.

Zac:

This isn't that. Isn't that what successful people do?

Kim:

Well, and they just do it and it drives them crazy because everybody wants to be perfect.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

Because everything that is on social media is glossed up. I love to watch those people. You know, they. They're walking on a treadmill in the middle of their living room. There's three dogs running around. But you know what?

Zac:

But it works somehow.

Kim:

Okay. They're not perfect.

Zac:

No.

Kim:

Okay.

Zac:

But that's. That to me is like, that's the thing that's so hard about social media is you spend all this time making something and then you post it and no one cares, and then you post some dumb thing that you spent no on and it gets 10 times.

Kim:

Yeah, but that's that is. That is the law of connection. That's the art. Not the law. The art of connection.

Zac:

Okay.

Kim:

Because no one does things perfectly, but everybody can do it that way.

Zac:

Right?

Kim:

So people connect with people they can relate to. So the more simple, the more real, the more.

Zac:

Because you're. You're a connection, like, master, like you. You somehow. And to this day, even as your producer, I cannot. I couldn't tell you exactly what it.

Kim:

Is I can tell you.

Zac:

How do you.

Zac:

Yeah.

Zac:

How do you connect?

Kim:

A lot of people ask me that about the business and how does it perform so well and so 2025.

Zac:

Connection.

Kim:

Connection.

Zac:

How do you.

Kim:

And you can teach it.

Zac:

How do you.

Kim:

I remember sitting with a big CEO. He will remain nameless.

Zac:

Okay.

Kim:

I was talking to him, and he was talking to me about, why is your business so successful?

Zac:

Sure.

Kim:

And he said, it's because you're authentic. I was like, yeah, I guess so. There's other people that are authentic. But I said, it's connection.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

And he just looked at me and I said. I said. And he almost. I was anticipating what he was saying because he was about to say, oh, okay. Like, thinking that's some, like, secret, that some big mystery or some gift or some kind of something. And I said. And I. The one thing I cannot teach people.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

Is authenticity.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

But I can teach them connection. Connection can be taught. Authenticity cannot. So that's what the new book is about. So for me, you're. You're getting on social media more. I'm going to dig in and write another book, which is just. Okay.

Kim:

Do I need to even. Let me just do the.

Zac:

Look, can we talk about. Oh, my gosh, your first book.

Kim:

It was hell.

Zac:

Your first book was kind of hell.

Kim:

For you, for all of us. Why?

Zac:

Why, Kim? Why are you doing it? You know, you can do something else. You could. You couldn't.

Kim:

I know.

Zac:

It doesn't have to be a book. I'm not trying to talk you out.

Kim:

I think it's just talking. I'm so passionate about this. I think that, like, my best friend Amy, she wants to meet a man in 2025. She's trying to find her man. So we're all looking. Y'all.

Zac:

Right.

Kim:

All right. But. And she just thinks it's insurmountable. She'll never be able to meet somebody, you know? I mean, so it's like. It's all about people. It's people led. Life is people led. It's not product led.

Kim:

It's not performance led. It's not prosperity. Led. It's. It's people led.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

So how do you get what you need out of people? How do you find that person to love? How do you find that business and. And get people to buy into your business? It is about connecting with people.

Zac:

Yes.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

That I can teach. I can teach that.

Zac:

So are you going to. Is this more for business people? Is this for anybody?

Kim:

This is anybody, everybody. I have been doing teaching connection my whole entire life. Didn't even know it. So when I trace it back, I just did it the other day at the high school with some senior girls. I'm going to do a how to. How to connect with people. To find the love of your life, to find the business. Connect with yourself more in a real way so that you're more confident.

Kim:

It's all about connection. It's all that oxytocin that we were talking about on that.

Zac:

I know that. And that is that. That hit you. That, that you were like, you were talking about that for weeks after.

Kim:

It's truth.

Zac:

So tell. Wait, so remind people, what's the oxytocin?

Kim:

I don't want to tell it. I don't want to tell it right now. We have to wait to wait till we get into season. How many seasons is this for us?

Zac:

This is going to be season five season.

Kim:

Oh, that's a good number.

Zac:

That's a good number. Season five is the season that everything's going to change.

Kim:

Yes. Well, and the thing is, it's like, you know, I could name so many people in the world right now that connects. You wouldn't even some of them you don't even like. Yeah, but I. And I know why they are where they are based on their connection.

Zac:

Well, we should make this season of the podcast about connection.

Kim:

We're doing it. Let's do it. We're done. We've decided.

Zac:

Decided connection. And how do you. You said something actually recently about like, really getting to know someone. Like, how do you do? Like, how can we do that now? I'm just having the conversation we were going to have about the podcast next year right here on the podcast.

Kim:

My dad said something a long time ago. He said if you're interested in. Make it about other people, it will inevitably be about you.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

And he wasn't saying it in this manipulating way. He was basically saying having. Having a curiosity and interest about people, they feel connected. And then you feel connected.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

By receiving that feedback. Do you see what I'm saying? So it's like it's. You're in the people Business. But most people today, because of technology, because of like instant gratification. I mean, there is a big void with connection.

Zac:

Yes.

Kim:

People don't take the time to get to know people.

Zac:

They don't take time to get to know people. And they also. I see myself doing this where I'm just like, I'm talking to someone and I'm like, oh, I'm not actually really paying attention to what they're telling me.

Kim:

That is not because you don't want to connect. That's because you busier than a one armed paper hanger.

Zac:

But no, but that's about, but if I really. But like, that's. There's an effort in connection. Right? I mean.

Kim:

Right. It is, but we, we crave it.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

That's why we're depressed. That's why a lot of us have anxiety. That's why a lot of us are. Are. That's. That's why we escape to social media. We want to connect.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

That's why people look at inappropriate things on the Internet. Men and women both. They want to connect. They want to feel love. They want to feel connection.

Zac:

Yeah. Yeah.

Zac:

And I don't think.

Kim:

It's not about, it's not about all of that. They want, they're looking for connection.

Zac:

Yeah.

Zac:

So. Okay, let's. Let's wrap because we're. This is a three part episode because.

Kim:

We'Re heading into, we're heading into the holiday season right now.

Zac:

What are you getting for. Let's see, let's. Let's do a test.

Kim:

Oh, God. Is this a Christmas list test?

Zac:

This is a Christmas list test. This first episode is going to come out before Christmas.

Kim:

Yeah. It's December right now.

Zac:

It's December right now.

Kim:

Yeah. But I have less than 5% of my Christmas.

Zac:

Yeah.

Zac:

What's. What's your. What do you want for Christmas? Let me ask you that. What do you want for Christmas?

Kim:

I want for. To be left alone for two full days in my house by myself. I'm not gonna get it. No, no. But yeah, I do. I, I want, I want, I don't want a thing. I just want to spend time with family and have a few days off.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

How about you?

Zac:

  1. No, I don't want anything. Like any stuff. Yeah. It's more. I would love to do something really fun with the family.

Kim:

Do it. Do it.

Zac:

We were talking about maybe doing Disneyland.

Kim:

Oh, Lord. Okay. We'll be right back. Oh, God.

Zac:

That's not over Christmas though.

Kim:

That's not fun, honey. That's that way. Christmas is beautiful. Though. At Disneyland.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

Yeah. You might want to think about it. And splurge for the really, like, expensive tickets where they. You can, like.

Zac:

Do you skip all the lines and everything?

Zac:

Because it costs. But it costs a million dollars.

Kim:

It doesn't matter. Spend a million. Literally a million. And if you can swing it.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

Ask all your family to donate to the Disneyland fast pass. Fun.

Zac:

Yeah. Because then it's. Because then you just. You're.

Kim:

Then you just have a ball.

Zac:

Yeah.

Zac:

Because you're just going.

Kim:

Because the girls will love it.

Zac:

Yeah, I know.

Kim:

  1. Can I just say something to everybody listening right now?

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

Take the trip.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

Say yes to whatever you need to, y'all. I'm telling you, life is so short.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

Eat the pie.

Zac:

Eat the pie.

Zac:

Life short. Eat the pie.

Kim:

That's what this podest is called. Have a short. Eat the piece.

Zac:

I love it.

Kim:

Connect with your loved ones.

Zac:

All right.

Kim:

It's Christmas, y'all. It's Hanukkah. It's holidays.

Zac:

Yeah.

Zac:

Let's wrap it up, Kim. Wrap it up for us.

Kim:

All right, well, tune in next week. We're gonna be talking about. We're. Gosh. We'll be one week closer.

Zac:

No, we're next. Next.

Kim:

Next week is Christmas. Christmas day.

Zac:

So Christmas. We're gonna have a Christmas message for you.

Kim:

Yeah, let's do it. All right, Love y'all.

Zac:

Bye.

Kim:

Just be relaxed.

Zac:

I'm not used to being in a whole studio, Kim.

Kim:

I know. It's like, gotta be like, hey, we.

Zac:

Need to get another one of those for this.

Kim:

Might need new colors. Oh, my gosh. All right, turn it off, turn it off. Level up, level up, level up. No, no.

Zac:

That's what you said last year. I'm gonna.

Kim:

I'm gonna. That's not what we're doing. No, I'm not leveling up. Not 24. Forget what I just said. We're not leveling up.
