Dance Your Way to Inner Strength with Allison Holker Boss

Allison Holker’s life was turned upside down after her husband’s tragic death. Hear how she managed to “keep dancing through” the tragedy and find meaning in her next act.

This week Zac and I got dancing lessons from So You Think You Can Dance star, Allison Holker Boss (Zac needed them). We get deep with Allison who opened up about dealing with the public loss of her husband, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, how she stays positive, and how she’s moving forward with her next chapter, a new children’s book called, "Keep Dancing Through" which is a lyrical and fun book that will teach your kids stress relief, and mindfulness without them even knowing it. Allison has truly turned her mess into her message and she’s using it to help others. You don’t want to miss this episode of The Kim Gravel Show.

Allison Holker Boss is a versatile professional dancer, on-air personality, and Emmy-nominated choreographer, recognized for her outstanding contributions to Dancing with the Stars. She has captivated television audiences with her exceptional performances, whether as a competitor, an All-Star dancer, or a choreographer on FOX's popular dance competition series So You Think You Can Dance. Additionally, she showcased her hosting skills on HGTV's Design Star: Next Gen. Previously, Allison collaborated with her late husband, Stephen "tWitch" Boss, as a co-host for Disney's Fairytale Weddings. Currently residing in Los Angeles with her children, Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia, Allison is also a published author, with her debut picture book, Keep Dancing Through.

This is my favorite quote from the episode:

“I believe that all of us have a purpose. Whether that purpose is just being someone's friend or hugging someone one day when they really need it.” – Allison Holker Boss

Kim:

Hey, y'all. Kim Gravel. And this is The Kim Gravel Show. We have a dancer on the show today. Zac, what's your go to dance moves? Do you dance?

Zac:

I do dance. I danced a lot more in high school. But do you actually want to know my go to dance move, Kim? Because it's extremely embarrassing.

Kim:

Okay. Okay. Have we seen it before? Like, is this as typical?

Zac:

A little bit. I haven't really busted it out. I know we dance at the end of every episode, but if you would.

Kim:

Like to call that dancing.

Zac:

Okay, look, so my go to dance.

Kim:

Move, we move to a beat.

Zac:

My go to dance move, Kim, is a shimmy, but let me give you the whole. Hold on.

Kim:

Oh, lord.

Zac:

Let me just give you some chest.

Kim:

Hair here, and then I'm getting chest hair on the.

Zac:

Just a little bit of this.

Kim:

Oh, that's a good. That's not bad. I don't hate it.

Zac:

I can go with one. I can go the other. What do you think, Kim? Hold on, hold on. I'm gonna give myself. Okay, all right. Wait, Kim, I wanna know, though, what is your go to dance move? And to answer this question. Wait, I'm gonna give you this.

Kim:

Okay. Mine is kind of like a. Drop it like it's hot. Drop it like it's hot. Drop it, drop it. Drop it like it's hot. It's hard to do seated, but, you know, I just kinda feel the rhythm of the music.

Zac:

I'm feeling it. That's like a vogue. What's that called? Wait, what is that one called?

Kim:

Actually, that's the Vogue. That's the Vogue.

Zac:

That's the vogue. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

Kim:

You know, our guest today is, like, the dancer of all dancers.

Zac:

I'm going to button my shirt back up just so.

Kim:

I don't want to tempt anybody. I don't want to tempt anybody.

Zac:

I mean, it's too much, like, for all the women watching the show, you know? I'm sorry.

Kim:

Just gird your loins, people. Gird your loins, people. Dancing is about. Is about the connection. Oh, my gosh. We are totally ridiculous, by the way.

Zac:

All right. Yeah, this is going about as well as I hoped it. Wait, wait. Okay. Before we start the show, though, for real, I do have a serious thing I want to ask you, Kim. How is we just, like, for the audience, for all of us, how is it going with your bell's palsy recovery?

Kim:

Ah, I'm almost. Look. Okay, here we go.

Zac:

Let's see it. You see that?

Kim:

A little bit more. I'm almost there.

Zac:

Wow.

Kim:

Yeah.

Zac:

I would say, like, you know what? Like, symmetrical. 95%.

Kim:

95%. Like, you can hardly. Just a little bit. When I'm talking, I'm, like, looking at myself and, like. Yeah, just a. Just a smidge. I'll take it. And I just want to say to everybody, thank you so much for your prayers and your kind words.

Kim:

It has just really gone a long way. I'm serious. Really gone a long way. I appreciate it.

Zac:

Yeah. The response we got from people was incredible.

Kim:

So many people have dealt with it. So many people have dealt through it, and, you know, I love it because our. Our guest on today's show, she's had to deal with a lot in her life, and that's what made her, you know, really put out this book.

Zac:

Let's get to it. Let's get to it.

Kim:

Should we get. Yeah. I mean, I just admire this woman so much for so many reasons, but you want to talk about when you go through hard things and having to get up and keep on dancing. Our next guest is that person, and I cannot wait for you to meet her and hear her story. And we're going to find out who that is right after this. Zac, let's dance out of the break.

Zac:

Okay, ready? Wait, I have another one for you. This is neon night, Kim.

Kim:

Here we go. We'll be right back.

Intro:

This is The Kim Gravel Show.

Kim:

Oh, we gonna be dancing at this episode.

Allison Holker Boss:

I've been dancing on tv since I was 18.

Kim:

You went through such a painful loss publicly, man.

Allison Holker Boss:

The prayers that people were saying for our family, I could cry right now. If you can't love yourself, you cannot accept love.

Kim:

You're going to touch and change so many lives.

Allison Holker Boss:

I love the Bible, but this is the second.

Zac:

Oh, she can't say it on it.

Kim:

Oh, no, you're not. No, you say it. I really don't know if I trust him. Any man that has a smaller butt than me, I don't know. All right, y'all, remember I told you the beginning of the show? We gonna be dancing at this episode of the Kim gravel show, y'all. I have got probably one of my most favorite dancers. She's all over social media. She is Emmy nominated.

Kim:

You know her from. So you think you can dance? Uh huh. Oh, yeah. You know her from her millions of dances she has done on Twitter. Emmy nominated, y'all. Can y'all please put your hands together and welcome the one and only Allison Holker. Boss. Allison Holker bus.

Allison Holker Boss:

Thank you for having me. I'm so excited to be here.

Kim:

Okay, girl, I'm a big fan of you, and I have been probably. I mean, for years, you have been dancing. How long have you been dancing into the hearts of America?

Allison Holker Boss:

I have been. I'm gonna assume my age. I'm 36, and I have been dancing on tv since I was 18.

Kim:

Girl, you're 36 years old. You look a good sister, sledge, like a fine wine.

Allison Holker Boss:

Thank you.

Kim:

Thank you.

Allison Holker Boss:

I'm proud of my age. I am. I'm proud of the life I've lived. You know, it's been a lot.

Kim:

Well, and it's a life well lived. You know what I'm saying? You've got three beautiful children, and you have probably gone through some of the hardest times recently in the past few years of your life. And you've written this children's book with Twitch, and it is called Keep dancing through. Isn't this. Gosh, girl, I just had. I dealt with Belle's palsy not too long ago, and we're all going through.

Allison Holker Boss:

Everyone is going through something in a different way, a different kind of capacity. I look at grief as not being someone's grief is more than the other. It's everyone is experiencing some sort of feeling or pain or trauma or just experience. And I feel like the messaging of keep dancing through is for everyone in some way, form or fashion, because we need that encouragement that no matter what's going on in your life, you can move forward, because it's not about what's happening to you. It's about the way you walk through it, the way you dance through it, the way you move through it. And so, for me, this book is such a testament to what I want to spread out into the world and for myself as well, and to my children, you know, that I have to tell myself every day that I'm gonna keep dancing through. So it's also for me. And everyone has ever followed our journey since I was 18 years old.

Kim:

I get so many emails and messages on social media about. And it always says, kim, I'm really going through it. I'm really dealing with blah, blah, blah. And I know you get those messages, too. How has your story and this story of dancing through, how has it connected with people? How has it changed you in connecting with people? Because I think you have such a. Well, I know, I don't think you have such a way of authenticity about you, Allison, that it's just even now and even bigger, has this opportunity to connect. What are the messages you're getting? What are you seeing back from the people that are experiencing this book, well.

Allison Holker Boss:

I've always had the ability to tell other people's stories that made people on the other side of the screen connect with me being like, oh, I've felt that. And I've been there. Or that story she's telling happened to my mother or to my brother or. So I feel like since I was 18, I've been very fortunate to tell such big stories that made people really see me and feel connected to me. But the difference now is they're just seeing, for the first time, my story. And so it's made us connect in a different kind of way, because now they're just seeing me. They're not connecting through me, through their eyes, and a different story that they relate to. They're seeing me.

Allison Holker Boss:

And so it's a different kind of connection and a pass along now that it feels like. It feels like. Because everyone felt like they knew me, we just feel a lot closer.

Kim:

Well, and I know when I read the book, and I loved it. Cause I've got two kids. I know you've got three kids. You got. Okay, so your oldest is 16.

Allison Holker Boss:

She is 15. Wesley is 15, Maddox is eight. And Ziya is four.

Kim:

It's four. And see, I've gotta just gird your loins, girl, because I have a 16 year old and a 15 year old, and they think they're grown and they're not, but they're nothing. Have you gotten to the hard teen stage yet, or. No?

Allison Holker Boss:

I will say a lot of parents will like to hear my journey, because my daughter and I were best friends.

Kim:

I love that. I was with my mom, too.

Allison Holker Boss:

Yeah. Yeah. I have not had a bratty stage of a teenager. We're actually so kind to each other. We hang out every night. Like, her friends will be going out and getting crazy, and she'll be with me.

Kim:

I love it.

Allison Holker Boss:

I feel very, very blessed to have that. But I truly have not gone through any of that phase with my daughter, and I'm very grateful for it, and I respect it a lot. And we just have, like, this. This bond that's undeniable, and we just lean on each other and trust each other, and so it's. I actually don't relate with that well.

Kim:

This is the thing. I'm jealous, and I'm so thankful that you don't. I have two boys, so I never sit on a clean toilet seat, so I get the girl thing. But, you know, when I read the book, you talk about a lot of these affirmations. How important is that to you, because I truly believe in that. What you think about, you know, you bring about, what you speak about, you bring about. Tell me about the affirmations that you share in the book. Y'all gotta get this book for your kids, for your grandkids.

Allison Holker Boss:

First of all, with my children, I do affirmations every morning, and I start by saying, I am strong, I am smart, I am beautiful, and I'm kinda. Now, in the book, we added a little bit more rhythm to it, so it's a little bit different. I'll let you read the book to see it, but it is a little bit more rhythmical throughout the entire book, kind of like a musical song or a dance. But then also, the other thing that my kids and I say is we do the hard things and our words become our reality. And I'm a firm believer that, like, you talk to yourself in your head and in your mind and to your soul more than anybody else does. So you must be your biggest champion. You must be cheering yourself on. You must be giving yourself positivity, because if you can't love yourself, you cannot accept love.

Kim:

Amen.

Allison Holker Boss:

With everything we went through this last year, I know that more than anything, that you could be getting poured in with all this love. But if you don't know how to accept it, you never feel it, truly. And so, for me, this book is like teaching my children that you. You have to be your biggest advocate. You have to. It's okay to love yourself, which is something that I'm learning now, too, which is an interesting thing, is I think I've always loved myself, but it's not something I've ever been like. I'm me.

Kim:

Yeah. I love me. Yeah. Yeah. But it is a practice, and I like how you said that. It is a practice and a habit that you get into, and you do it long enough, it really sinks in. You went through such a public loss, I mean, a painful loss, publicly. How did you turn your mess into your message girl?

Allison Holker Boss:

Well, at the end of the day, people have their opinions, and people are going to say what they want to say. But to be honest, through this journey, though, there's both sides to any coin. I received so much love, and I received so much support, and I had so many prayers that truly were lifting me up. My cousin and I talk about it all the time, that though it was really public, and that can feel very scary, man. The prayers that people were saying for our family, I could cry right now. Were lifting us up. I could feel the protection from people. And of course, you have the other side of things, but the positivity and the support was so loud, it outsighted all of that.

Allison Holker Boss:

And again, because I know those things are gonna be there, but what you choose to see, it's what you choose to listen to and who you choose to listen to, because I could choose to listen to the negativity, or I could choose to listen to positivity. And so we choose the other side. And I just feel it was really scary, though, to be, like, our lives so put out there in such a way, in such a loud way. But it really was. It was something that people really came to our aid in a lot of big ways, and so I'm very grateful for that.

Kim:

Well, when you were 18, you know, your daughter is 15, you were 18, and your parents drove you to los Angeles for your very first audition, because, y'all, this girl can dance. Girl, you move. You put my back out doing your moves. I mean, and I'm 52, so my back is ready to break anyway. But what was that like, going to LA? And did you always have a dream dancing and anybody listening or watching? Do dreams exist and do they come true and give us. Give us some inspiration, Allison, because you truly are living the dream, girl.

Allison Holker Boss:

Thank you. When I was 18 years old, my dance teacher at the time called me. He was like, hey, there's this big audition in LA. I think you should do it now. Where were you?

Kim:

Where were you?

Allison Holker Boss:

I was in Utah. Oh, I grew up in Utah. Yes. Yeah. That's where all my family still is. That's where my parents are. I go back all the time.

Kim:

That's.

Allison Holker Boss:

Something changed. It's so beautiful.

Kim:

Yeah.

Allison Holker Boss:

Yeah. And so I said to my parents, like, hey, I think I should go to this audition. I have no idea what the show is. I don't even know at the time what it really entails or comes with, but I was like, let's go. It was my first audition in LA. My parents were so supportive, but we drove to downtown LA for the first time. That's where the audition was. And so my parents were a little scared because it was not the best of areas.

Allison Holker Boss:

It wasn't the safest feeling, if I'm staying that kindly. And the parents were allowed in because you had to be 18 and above, and I had. Meanwhile, I was still in high school. I had just turned 18, I think, like, two weeks before the audition, so I was still a baby, but they could not come in with me, and so they sent me in, and I just went in there and danced you know, I never got into dance with the intention of being on tv or being on film or being. Having some sort of fame or recognition from it, because when I was growing up in dance, there really wasn't famous dancers, really. I was working towards being, you know, on Broadway or a contemporary touring company or a ballet company. That's really where I saw myself being. So when I ended up at this audition, I was like, oh, a tv show.

Allison Holker Boss:

I don't even watch tv at this time because I'm just training every day as a dancer. I made the show, and it gains everything for me. And so I feel like something that really worked for me at that moment is I'm a firm believer that in preparation, met with luck and being ready for the chance when they all come together as, like, the perfect matchup, you know? And so. Cause sometimes people get an opportunity, but they're not really preparing for it. Hey, you know? And sometimes people prep for something, but then the moment comes and they're too scared, and they, you know, come on off of it, you know? And so, for me, it's like when all these things pair at the right time and you just jump in all forward, that's when it really becomes magic. And so I feel really grateful that the show. I was so fortunate. Just the timing worked out, but I had put in the work.

Allison Holker Boss:

But then the show gave me this amazing opportunity, and I just said, I don't know what I'm doing, but I'll jump in. And they gave you the chance, too.

Kim:

They did. And it. I mean, like you said, it changed your life. I mean, your marriage, your children. All the good things came from that one opportunity. Let me ask you this. One show changed your one trajectory of your life, and now the show is back, and you're back on, girl. And what is it like sitting in that seat? Because you're sitting there as a seasoned professional, so successful, so successful, both personally and professionally, Allison, you know, I mean, and you're watching people live out their dreams right in front of you, and you have their fate in the palm of your hand.

Kim:

What is that like? Like, is that your give back, girl?

Allison Holker Boss:

Well, first off, I'll say that the show is the show that just keeps on giving to me. It just keeps picking me up, and it keeps blessing, giving me another chance, and it keeps, like, finding me in these times when I'm really low and helping me pick myself back up. So the show really is my saving grace and continues to be. And so, yes, with what you're saying, that it feels like an opportunity for me to give back to the show. And everything has given me and the dance community and how much it's helped me and saved me. But dance is somewhere that I feel so safe. And as I've been getting older and with the trauma I've experienced, it has changed for me. And I wasn't sure how I was going to dance through this as far as, like, professional dancing.

Allison Holker Boss:

Not like, dancing through with my kids and getting all that off, but, like, truly, like, will I ever dance that kind of capacity again after everything I've been through? Because that's always where I got all that angst off me. And it feels like the show gave me an opportunity to see dance in a new light and find that love and that core joy that dance has always brought me from a new capacity for me now to give other people the opportunity to share what I shared and what saved me for so many years. And so I feel like it's just this way and it's a full circle way of me passing that torch to other dancers and to celebrate them and see them for who they are and give them their chance to shine.

Kim:

And when I tell you you are dancing through bigger and better than ever.

Kim:

I mean, did you ever think you would be at a point where the book, Allison, would be literally what you're living in a bigger way than just an everyday? I mean, this book, it's almost foreshadowing.

Allison Holker Boss:

Yeah. It feels like God has been protecting me through this and guiding me because though I have been so low now, which I. This is like the biggest low I think anyone, you know, there's a lot.

Kim:

Of lows, but this is going to get you. Yeah, it's big and.

Allison Holker Boss:

But at the same time, I feel like for whatever reason, he gave me this purpose and I've just had to accept it and learn to lean in and it feels like I've been, for whatever reason, getting prepared for it. And so now, after I'm still grieving but starting my healing process, it feels like I'm supposed to help other people through theirs. And so this book was the start of that.

Kim:

It really was. I mean, I remember it. I was thinking, wow, what a divine appointment. And I don't say that in a flippant way, and I'm getting emotional thinking about it, Allison, because I have prayed with you and for you and, like a lot of other people, but there's such power in your message. I just want you to hear that is such. You're going to touch and change so many lives in a very. God doesn't waste one thing. I love that about him.

Kim:

And I love how you're not. You're picking up the mantle, and you're like, dag, I'm it. I'm not wasting it, either. What keeps you motivated, sis? I mean, what keeps you in the good fight? I know. The kids. I mean. Cause I have kids, too. And so you would just absolutely, you know, crawl across glass, right, to keep going for your kids.

Kim:

But what is that motivation? Or is it a motivation? Is it just, you know, survival? What is it that keeps you going? Cause there's so many people out there that feel the same way.

Allison Holker Boss:

Girl. Yeah. I mean, definitely, of course, kids waking up every day to protect them and be there for them and support them, but truly, it's kind of simple. I love life.

Kim:

Come on, now. Come on. Preach.

Allison Holker Boss:

There's the simple things. I love going on a walk every day. I love waking up and seeing my little puppy anymore. But my little Luna. I love going to the beach. I love seeing and talking to my family. I love playing basketball with my son. I love the career I have.

Allison Holker Boss:

I love the friendships I have. And I love my morning coffee. Oh, love coffee. That maybe that didn't be expressed more than my kids.

Kim:

Hey, no judgment here, girl.

Zac:

We want the order. We want the order.

Kim:

Exactly. I get it. I get it, girl.

Allison Holker Boss:

And really, it's interesting, because I've experienced such a grievance, but it never changed my love and wanting to live. I've always been a bucket list person where I want to see this, I want to experience that. And that hasn't changed. And I still believe that being here is. Is what we're supposed to be doing.

Kim:

And it's worth it.

Allison Holker Boss:

It's worth it. And I believe that all of us have a purpose, whether that purpose is just being someone's friend or hugging someone one day when they really need it. I just think the simplicity of life is so beautiful just to be here. And I hope that people can remember that, because I know. I know life gets stressful. I know I have still a different kind of low, but, like, those days, I just get overwhelmed.

Zac:

Sure.

Allison Holker Boss:

Oh, my gosh. I have to work on my insurance today or taxes, and I have to get to my job, and I have to. Oh, my gosh, I'm late to picking my kids up from school.

Kim:

I'm awful.

Allison Holker Boss:

I still go through all of those things, but at the end of the day, I'm so blessed that I get to experience those things.

Kim:

Yes, yes, yes. And it's. It's perspective. I mean, it's perspective. And in the book, the characters, I love this. That they take a moment to breathe, you know? How important is mindfulness to you? Because, you know, we toss that word around, and it's almost like a little cute TikTok or social media just being. But, I mean, it's the real deal. Holyfield.

Kim:

It matters. And what does it matter to you? Like, that breathing, that just exhale.

Allison Holker Boss:

So I. Oh, my gosh. I am a person that I. Throughout my days, I am, like, a very scheduled person.

Kim:

Oh, are you?

Allison Holker Boss:

Well, I am a day planner guru. I am. And mine's like.

Kim:

Oh, my God, is.

Zac:

That a good or bad. Oh, my God, is that a good or a bad thing? Allison, do you wish you were more or less like that?

Kim:

I love it.

Allison Holker Boss:

I sometimes wish I could be a little bit more just like a loop and on the fly, but, like, my day planner, it is. I love the Bible, but this is the second.

Kim:

This is the second girl I give my left breast to see your day planner right now. Do you know what I'm saying? I thought she was going shot.

Zac:

I thought she was gonna get it.

Kim:

I thought she was gonna get it.

Zac:

You're gonna have to. Yeah.

Kim:

Okay. Now, serious, Allison, you've got to. You've got to post that on social media, because I'm a person. I never write in my day planners, but I have, like, 14,422 of them. You know what I mean? I am so jealous of you, and I love you so much. And you are my guru when it comes to day planners. Okay? I don't know how we got off on that.

Allison Holker Boss:

In my days, mindfulness is so important because I schedule it out through my days.

Kim:

Okay?

Allison Holker Boss:

So I wake up every day at six, sometimes 530 if I need to. But the first bit of mindfulness I get is I start my day in my cold plunge.

Kim:

So I'm by myself, okay?

Allison Holker Boss:

That's where I sip my coffee, and I have five minutes by myself. And mine, actually, it's really aesthetic. It's beautiful. It's outside. I'm very blessed to have it. But I, like, watch the sunrise while I'm sipping my coffee. And I just meditate, and I just. At peace.

Allison Holker Boss:

And that's how I start my day. That's the first time I do. And then I like to work out throughout my day at some point, which is a different kind of meditation, you know? And then I. If I need another moment of meditation, I like to go on walks. And also I do saunas. I sit my sauna about, like, three times a week. So, yeah, I plan ahead for it. Like, my day planner kit is also not just, like, work stuff and kid stuff.

Allison Holker Boss:

It's like, I wake up, I get ready, I get my cold plunge, I have my coffee. It's like every. Like.

Kim:

I love you so freaking much.

Allison Holker Boss:

Yeah, it's a lot. Yeah.

Kim:

Okay. Okay. I just had this business idea for you, Allison. You know, I'm on QVC, so I'm on all the time. Why don't you start a day plan? Girl, you with thousand, tens of thousands. No, I see. Allison, you need to hear me, girl. This is God right here.

Kim:

Little dropdown. Put it in your day planner. I can see. I'm telling you, in a day planner that has mindfulness centered. Why am I sitting here creating all this stuff? I'm sitting here thinking, girl, we need a business meeting.

Allison Holker Boss:

That's amazing. That would make my life.

Zac:

Girl, I think that's a really good idea.

Kim:

Your story is so powerful. But, like, the fact that you just said that about the day plan. I want to buy your day planner. Like, I will never use it, Allison. I will never use it. But it is chaos.

Zac:

Allison, you have to understand. Kim's life is chaos. Straight chaos.

Kim:

Chaos.

Zac:

Somehow it works.

Kim:

But, like, I need you in my life. I need you to mentor me in mindfulness in day planner.

Allison Holker Boss:

Oh, well, listen, I'll tell you this. No, I match your chaos. Like, my life is so chaotic. Like, literally yesterday. So my son's coach, like, his private basketball coach, okay, we're all laying on the couch. My kids are jumping on me. My dog's barking at him. He just comes with sound, and I just let him observe us.

Allison Holker Boss:

And, like, the amount of activities. Like, there was a basketball being thrown. My daughter got knocked over by the dog. Then my son's over here.

Zac:

Like, I'm gonna know.

Allison Holker Boss:

And she's like. It was just so chaotic. And I just let it be. And I just sit there. I'm like, hi. Welcome. You're welcome to our home.

Kim:

I love you. I know.

Allison Holker Boss:

I love you. It's still very chaotic. But, like, I think, for me, my day planner. It helps me move.

Kim:

Schedule.

Allison Holker Boss:

It moves myself throughout the day, thinking I'm accomplishing. Cause I like to check it off.

Kim:

I'm telling you, you complete me. I love this.

Allison Holker Boss:

I love this.

Zac:

Do you do. Inbox zero. Is that. Are you there?

Allison Holker Boss:

What's that?

Kim:

What's that?

Zac:

Oh, you don't know what inbox zero is?

Kim:

No.

Zac:

It might be changing your life right now. It's basically getting your inbox down to having zero emails in your inbox every day.

Kim:

I can't do that.

Zac:

But here's the thing.

Allison Holker Boss:

No, no.

Zac:

Are you someone. Are you like my wife, who has literally 65,000 emails in your inbox? Is that.

Kim:

Yeah, I'm afraid to delete anything.

Zac:

No.

Allison Holker Boss:

Yeah. No, I have. I know this, actually, right now, as I adjust, I have 25,000 emails and even text messages. I have, like, 130 text messages.

Kim:

I can't. I can't. I know.

Zac:

Wait, unread?

Kim:

No. Yes. But, Zac, that's not the issue here, y'all. That's not the main thing. Zac, she has a paper planner with stickers. All you need is a scented pen, honey, and you're done.

Allison Holker Boss:

I don't have that. I will say I don't have that.

Kim:

I mean, highlighters. The Allison planner. I'm telling you, we're going to talk. Okay. All right, look, I've got to let you go because I can keep you all day. I'm just. I just. I'm such a big fan girl, and I feel like we're best friends and you don't even know it.

Kim:

But listen, I do this at every show, Allison, and I'm serious. If you were really serious about QVC, let me know. But if you. Your people. Call my people. If you, which is Zac, every show, people have won.

Zac:

Wait, wait, wait, wait. Kim, wait. I'm not gonna let you go. I'm hijacking the show for a second because we need Allison's help. Okay, Allison, you didn't see this part, because we started this. For the open of the show, we did a little bit of dancing.

Kim:

Oh, Lord.

Zac:

And I feel like we maybe need a little bit of help. Like, at the end of every episode, what do we do, Kim?

Kim:

During the crown, we just dance. And it's not. I'm. Okay. Zac needs some serious help.

Zac:

Thank you. Thank you for throwing me under the bus. I think that's maybe true. Let's. Okay.

Kim:

I just need. We just need a couple of moves, Allison.

Allison Holker Boss:

Okay. I got you. Okay, we're gonna do this. Are you gonna do it right? Al, you ready?

Kim:

Yeah. Okay.

Allison Holker Boss:

Can you just hear from sitting? Just do everything. Where's your leg? Roll that.

Kim:

Hey, hey.

Allison Holker Boss:

Hey. Oh. Oh, yeah, you just a little wave. Just a little wave. Take your time.

Kim:

That's it. Is your neck.

Allison Holker Boss:

That was good. Okay, then this. Are you ready? This one's easier.

Kim:

Oh.

Zac:

Okay.

Allison Holker Boss:

Just pull it into. Hey.

Kim:

Oh, Zac, look at you. Okay. Okay.

Allison Holker Boss:

See? Yeah.

Kim:

All right.

Zac:

There you go.

Kim:

All right.

Zac:

Okay.

Allison Holker Boss:

Two new moves.

Kim:

We're done. That's it. I mean, we have accomplished something. Now. My neck hurts and my jaw was popping, but that's okay. We gonna get there. Kim:

So every. Okay, so whatever comes up comes out okay. Don't think about it. I don't want you to think about it. And inevitably, people think about it. Okay. Rapid fire questions. Chocolate or vanilla?

Allison Holker Boss:

Vanilla.

Kim:

Okay, vanilla. Do you have a nickname for your best friend? If so, what is it?

Zac:

Oh, she can't say it on it.

Kim:

Oh, no, no. You say it. No, no. Just. Okay, just do a blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Uh oh. Okay. If you had a personal robot, what would you have it do for you? Oh, God.

Kim:

That's a good one.

Allison Holker Boss:

I'm clean.

Kim:

Amen.

Allison Holker Boss:

Yeah.

Kim:

Can I just say, I'm attack on. What is your least favorite chore?

Allison Holker Boss:

Laundry.

Kim:

I hate laundry. Folding, washing, putting away. All of it.

Allison Holker Boss:

And you have to wait in between. So then I get distracted, sort of something else, and I forget it's a lot laundry. It's the worst. It's the worst.

Kim:

What is your funniest performance? Fail.

Allison Holker Boss:

Oh, my. Funny. Okay. Season two, I danced with Ivan. We did a west coast swing. We ended up on VH one's worst dress of the week, and we were laughing on stage. I was in a black unitar with, like, white fringe. Who does that? I don't know.

Allison Holker Boss:

It was really awful.

Kim:

So that fringe is on the fringe? What, do you have zero tolerance for.

Allison Holker Boss:

Chewing with your mouth open?

Kim:

Oh, like, do you, like. How about gum popping and all that? Can't stand it. Oh, God. No cracks. Knackle paw. I can't stand it. Okay. My mother cracks her gum so bad.

Kim:

Now. Do you have that thing like me? It's not. It's called mesophonia. Do you have mesophonia like me? Like, the little noises makes drive you crazy, like, going and things like that?

Allison Holker Boss:

Probably. I'm probably like you.

Kim:

Okay. Told you. I mean, I'm telling you. We're BfF's. You don't even know it. Okay, here we go. What is your biggest fear?

Allison Holker Boss:

Deep ocean and, like, falling in.

Kim:

Oh, God.

Zac:

Yep.

Allison Holker Boss:

Like, I like being on a boat, but, like, there's something about, like, the deep water not being able to see. That's so scary. You don't know what's under.

Kim:

Well, yeah, and I don't really want to know. Let's just let God have his way there. Okay. What movie do you wish that had unlimited sequels to?

Allison Holker Boss:

Twilight.

Zac:

Twilight.

Kim:

Allison. Team Edward or Team Jacob? Just say it.

Allison Holker Boss:

I'm Team Edward and my daughter's team Jacob and Knockwai. The reason that's on my mind is we started marathon last night.

Kim:

I can do this one thing for you. I think we really are related. I mean, like, I think I'm old enough to be your mother, but we won't discuss it. But then. I agree. I agree. It's a good one. It's a good one.

Kim:

Okay. I'm just so excited. What is your favorite dance move?

Allison Holker Boss:

Um, probably. There's a lot of, um. Probably the Reebok.

Kim:

Okay, I know that one.

Zac:

Don't know.

Kim:

I can't do it, but I know.

Zac:

What's the Reebok. What is it now? I want to know.

Allison Holker Boss:

I can't do it.

Kim:

I'm.

Allison Holker Boss:

We're going to.

Kim:

Y'all google it. Y'all google it. Um, what movie do you. No. Excuse me. What is something you think is way underrated?

Allison Holker Boss:

Something that's underrated?

Kim:

Mm hmm.

Allison Holker Boss:

Flower. Like, bringing someone flowers?

Kim:

Yes. And what kind?

Allison Holker Boss:

Um, it has to be for the right occasion.

Kim:

Okay. Okay.

Allison Holker Boss:

It's like a dying artwork. It used to be, like, so popular. I feel like nothing. Like, oh, I don't need it. We don't need to do that.

Kim:

Like.

Allison Holker Boss:

No, yes, you do.

Kim:

You do.

Allison Holker Boss:

Yes, you do.

Kim:

What if you had a time machine and could go back and meet any historical figure? Who would it be? And. And. And why?

Allison Holker Boss:

Cleopatra girl, how'd you read? You are sexy.

Kim:

Don't you think? She invented, like, the liquid liner.

Allison Holker Boss:

Yes. Like, the makeup, the gold outfits. Like, I was like, I think Cher gets all of her role from her. And I think Cher is iconic. So, you know, I love it.

Kim:

Do you believe in any conspiracy theories?

Allison Holker Boss:

Yeah, probably.

Kim:

I think we all do just a little bit.

Allison Holker Boss:

I think we all do.

Kim:

Really?

Allison Holker Boss:

All of life is kind of a comparison. Right, right. The whole thing is kind of like a fed up. Right, right.

Kim:

When people are saying, I was just joking. There's a little truth to every little joke. Okay. Do you think our cell phones are listening to us?

Allison Holker Boss:

Yes, they are. I think everything listening to us at this point. My coffee maker's listening to me. It's so smart.

Kim:

Like my mother and dad. I bought them at Alexa. Your mom's like, I'm telling you, this is straight from the pits of hell. This is. Everybody's listening to us. I'm like, mom, you carry that phone around all day. They're listening. They're listening.

Kim:

I don't know what they're hearing, but they're listening.

Zac:

Kim, have you realized we've asked that question to, like, three or four guests. Everyone has said yes. Every single person has said yes.

Kim:

But let me tell you, the world we live in.

Zac:

Yeah.

Kim:

What is the one thing on a desert island, Allison, you cannot live without?

Allison Holker Boss:

And it's not my kids.

Kim:

No, this is just. You're by yourself.

Allison Holker Boss:

Okay.

Kim:

She said we're gonna bypass the kids. Yes. Or bypass the.

Zac:

She's gonna say day planner.

Allison Holker Boss:

I was gonna actually agree. What else am I. What am I planning? I'm gonna say coffee coffee.

Kim:

Yeah. She's a coffee. She's a coffee. Okay. Favorite type of co. I've got three or four more. Favorite type of coffee?

Allison Holker Boss:

Macchiato.

Kim:

Do you know I've never had a macchiato? I'm gonna have one in honor of you tomorrow morning. I know.

Allison Holker Boss:

macchiato. Yeah.

Kim:

I'm just so. I'm like, black. A little cream, and two splendas. I mean, I'm boring. Okay. What is your favorite. What is your favorite thing to do on your day off, like, when there's nothing going on?

Allison Holker Boss:

Sleep.

Kim:

I know.

Allison Holker Boss:

Sleep. I mean, is that a boring answer? I'll give you a more fun answer. I actually am very adventurous, so I like to go do, like, big things. Like, I like to go on, like, a helicopter ride. I like to go on, like, small planes. I like to, like, skydive or go zorbi. I like big, crazy experiences. Like, I'm a very big person like that.

Allison Holker Boss:

Or, like, go experience me new. Go somewhere new. So usually that's always why I don't really have a lot of time off is because if I do have a time off, I'm doing something crazy that expends a lot of energy. Like, oh, it's no lip lining today.

Kim:

And their kids are like, okay, okay.

Allison Holker Boss:

Oh, no. They're adrenaline junkies now, too. It's kind of crazy.

Kim:

You're raising them right. You're raising them right. Favorite junk food. Sweet and salty. Sweet. Sweet and salty chips. Thank you for not being a health weirdo nut. I thank you.

Kim:

Salt and vinegar chips are delicious. Okay, what brand? Just.

Allison Holker Boss:

I do the kettle. It's like the blue bat kettle. Is that the kettle? Yeah.

Kim:

Have you ever tried the lays? Just the big old salted, just greasy lays.

Allison Holker Boss:

I do the. I'll do the lay.

Kim:

The law.

Allison Holker Boss:

I'll do the lays as well. Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever.

Kim:

Sweet. I, um, make it good cheesecake. Mmm. With fruit topping or just. Just straight up cheesecake.

Allison Holker Boss:

Cheesecake. But, like, I mean, you could put caramel swirl in it. You could put Oreos on it. You could make it, like, a butterscotch. You can make it like a. Like, I. Like, um, start adding to it. You know what I'm saying? Like, layer, layer, layer, layer.

Allison Holker Boss:

But not with, like, fruits. Like, I want, like, the chocolate, the peanuts, the. The turtle.

Kim:

The turtle.

Allison Holker Boss:

The whipped cream, the. All that stuff. Yeah.

Kim:

If you're gonna do it, do it. It's relatively, you know, healthy anyway. Clearly.

Zac:

Tell yourself that, Kim.

Kim:

Clearly. You can see I'm delusional celebrity crush.

Allison Holker Boss:

Celebrity crush. Man, oh, man. I'm.

Kim:

Yep. Just saying.

Allison Holker Boss:

Zendaya.

Kim:

Oh, I love her. And I was just watching Dune, too. I was just watching Dune. You know, second her outfits. I know. But, girl, guess who mine is. I can't believe you said Zendaya. I'm telling you, you and I are so here.

Kim:

Mine's Timothy Charlemagne. The jawline.

Allison Holker Boss:

Mm hmm. Mm hmm. And he seems like the nicest human.

Kim:

He's the nicest human. But I really don't know if I trust him. Any man that has a smaller butt than me, I don't know.

Allison Holker Boss:

Yeah, I can see. Yeah, that's nice to eat.

Kim:

Yeah.

Allison Holker Boss:

Yeah.

Kim:

All right, my last question. Girl, we'll let you go.

Allison Holker Boss:

How?

Kim:

What is the next thing you're gonna be dancing through into?

Allison Holker Boss:

You know, I have a project that me and my daughter really want to do together, and because we are so close and we're venturing off in these new journeys, and she's obviously be going, you know, in a couple of years, we go to college, and so we've been thinking of, like, what can we do together before, you know, we kind of start venturing off to these new world. We're not living together anymore. She's off into her own space. We are working on something together.

Kim:

Ooh, I can't wait to see what that is. I know. Mother daughter team. And it's the tag team. I'm telling you. The tag team. Allison, thank you so much, girl, I just adore you. I think God is using you in such big ways, and it's just gonna get bigger, sis.

Kim:

I'm telling you, it's coming.

Allison Holker Boss:

Thank you. I appreciate that a lot.

Kim:

You are therapy, ministry, and motivation for so many, and I love you. And thank you for being here.

Allison Holker Boss:

You know, I ask an audience a rapid fire question, and if you're watching and listening to this. Here is my question for you. Okay. What song when you hear it always makes you move your body? Uh huh. That's a good one.

Kim:

What song when you hear it always makes you move your body? Oh, there's so many for me. I can't wait to hear yours. Let me know your answer in the comments or send me your answer on my website kimgravelshow.com. I can't wait to hear what makes your body move.

Zac:

Ok, you have to answer, Kim. What makes your body move? What makes your body move?

Kim:

Whenever I hear Duran Duran's hungry like.

Zac:

The Wolfenhe.

Kim:

It makes me want to crawl. No, that was Rio.

Allison Holker Boss:

Rio.

Kim:

She was crawling hungry wolf. They were on the beach or in a boat.

Zac:

So get your bell body and get hungry like the wolf.

Kim:

Get hungry like the wolf. Or at least start moving like you've got it. Okay. But speaking of hungry, I'm starving.

Zac:

Let's get out of here.

Kim:

I'm just kidding, y'all. Thanks for watching. Thanks for listening. We love y'all.

Zac:

Bye.

Kim:

Keep on dancing. Keep on dancing.
